Byrd Park and Randolph, two neighboring communities, are rich historical areas of Richmond.

Byrd Park, located at the south end of the Boulevard, dates to 1874 when the city bought 60 acres for a reservoir. Familiar landmarks in this community include the Carillon, Dogwood Dell and the three lakes Boat, Swan and Shields. This community was developed along with the park in the 1920s. The diverse mix of home styles in this area include row houses, two-story frame bungalows, brick Colonials, Cape Cods, tri-levels, and American Four Squares mostly built in the 1930s and 1940s.
Randolph is directly opposite Byrd Park on the east side of Meadow Street. This community was built as a working class neighborhood for the factory workers like those in Oregon Hill between the 1890s and 1910s. During the 1970s a large area of this community was razed and designated for redevelopment. The homes that remain from that era are those in need of our attention.
